Norman took up the musical directorship of Galway Choral Association in March 2009.
Works we have performed under his direction include Dvorak's Mass in D, Fauré's Cantique de Jean Racine OP 11, Mozart's Missa Brevis in Bb (KV275) Haydn's Little Organ Mass, as well as numerous lighter works, and some of Norman's own arrangements of Irish songs.
About Norman:
Norman Duffy is a pianist and vocal coach with a lifetime of experience making music. Born in Dublin, he studied at the Municipal College of Music from a young age and enjoyed several notable successes. Following a family move to Galway in 1981, he completed an honours degree in Hotel and Catering Management in 1986.
During these years he was organist and choir master at the Dominican Church in the Claddagh.
Pursuing a successful career in the hospitality industry took him to Cork and Dublin for extended periods during which he continued his music studies and gave concerts. Two years in California and seven years in Amsterdam working as a management consultant gave valuable experience and during these years he gave many concerts as a pianist and was involved in community music making in many ways.
Norman returned to Galway at the end of 2006 and has become involved in the music scene since then. He believes that the Association occupies a unique place in the musical community in Galway and intends to build on past successes.
